Maharashtra govt to conserve and promote Jewish places in state for tourism

The government of Maharashtra has announced its intention to promote heritage Jewish sites in the state as tourist attractions. Tourism Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha formalized this commitment by signing a letter of intent with officials from the Israeli consulate.

Minister Lodha expressed the state’s dedication to conserving Jewish monuments and sites within Maharashtra, with the aim of enhancing tourism in the region. He acknowledged the enduring presence of Jewish communities in Maharashtra for centuries and the assimilation of their culture and language into the broader society.

Under this tourism initiative, prominent Jewish structures located in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and other parts of the state will receive special promotion and attention. Notably, the Konkan belt of Maharashtra has been home to pockets of Jewish populations for many generations.
